Projects Are About Humans. Now Deal With That!

Proud Postings: Eric D Brown

This is the first posting in a new series called Proud Postings. In it I ask several other bloggers in the Project Management arena "What are the 3 postings you are most proud of?" or "What are your favorite postings?". This kick off is provided by Eric D Brown and I really like his suggestions. Stuff I wish I wrote :)

The Problem(s) with Linear Thinking

"This article describes the dangers of linear thinking and the need for organizations (and people) to take a more critical and creative approach to the decision making process. The article uses hiring a new employee as an example of how linear thinking can make a huge impact (usually in a negative way) within an organization. I wrote the article after running across many different hiring managers that were looking for candidates that fit a narrowly defined job description rather than open up the candidate search to people with a more diverse background."

Competitive Advantage “ The Human Capital Approach

"This article describes the use of people as a way to build a competitive advantage. Im a big believer in the Resource Based View of the firm and its theories of using resources to gain and keep an advantage over your competitors. The article uses an example of a football team owner to drive home the point that people can be biggest asset. I wrote the article after being asked to prepare a presentation on competitive advantage for a client¦.after spending 5 minutes discussing Porters Five Forces, I realized that I lost the audience and had to quickly come up with a better example, which I recount in this article."

Agile Project Management & Product Strategy - A Case Study

"This article describes one of my most recent successes as a consultant. I wrote the article as mini-case study in using an agile mentality on a product development project. With this approach we were able to change the development plan from one that delivered a revenue generating product in 12 months to one that delivered a product with ~85% of the same features in 6 months at less than half the cost and capture $3.5 million in revenue."
